Sri Swami Kailashananda, also known as Yoga Gupta was born in the city of Kanpur India. It was in the city of Benares, after years of intense, dedicated practice and under the guidance of his Guru that he was initiated into the Holy Order of Sanyasa. (ordained monk) was given the name Swami Kailashananda. With the blessing of his Guru, he perfected and mastered the nine forms of Yoga in the Himalaya Mountains. He lived the life of a wondering monk disseminating spiritual knowledge for the goal of Self-Realization.
Yogi Gupta was one of the first Masters to bring Hatha Yoga to America. In 1954, he was invited to speak at the Health Convention in Chicago. Due to the immense interest of the people of United States he was asked to speak in cities across America, leading him settle in New York and establish the Yogi Gupta Ashram, the first Hatha yoga institution in the U.S.
Devoted to the Holy Science, Yogi Gupta materialized the Kailashananda Mission and Nature Cure Center in Rishikesh, India, which continues to serve humanity. Over the years Yogi Gupta traveled back and forth from India to U.S. teaching and imparting spiritual knowledge. His legacy lives on through his students in India and the U.S. He imparted the teachings of selfless service, renunciation, a live food diet, prayer, fasting, penance, and meditation. One of his mottos, “ Live simple and think nobly.”
